Three Republican Gubernatorial Candidates Propose
Moratorium on Coal Plant Closures

Indianapolis, IN. – On April 24, Reliable Energy, Inc. released its 2024 Republican Gubernatorial Questionnaire results. Answers were received from Mike Braun, Brad Chambers, Suzanne Crouch, Eric Doden, and Jamie Reitenour. Curtis Hill did not respond to the questionnaire.

“The results of the survey carried out by Reliable Energy offer hope for the residents of Indiana,” declared Jon Ford, the President of Reliable Energy, Inc. “Once known for having some of the lowest electric rates in the nation, Hoosiers have seen a significant increase, now ranking 32nd in terms of cost. Every candidate has underscored the importance of addressing this pressing issue of rising energy prices in the forthcoming administration.

“The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) recently issued a warning that reliability issues may arise if states persist in shutting down baseload power while also attracting economic development projects,” Ford added. “To ensure that the state remains competitive in this field and that Hoosier consumers have access to a consistent power supply, three of the five candidates have proposed placing a moratorium on the closure of coal plants until enough power is produced to meet capacity needs.”
